Post Atom Egoyan and the WM3
Atom Egoyan is doing a movie on the West Memphis 3. Thoughts?

Seems like he could have done it a little sooner and made a bigger difference.

I see what you're saying, but it seems that Egoyan was waiting for the "ending" before he made his movie, perhaps.

Kind of a cynical move for a storyteller. Like in Capote.

I very much agree...I should have added that to my own post. I think its especially cynical given that the story is obviously not (nor will be any time soon) over in any real sense. Freedom from prison is wonderful and of course the start, but it doesn't fix anyone's life. I think the only way this story can be effective and not exploitive is if it deals with just that: dealing with life after freedom. If it's told in a traditional, court-case style with victory at the end, seems like it won't work at all.

Is there an alternate suspect that the film can use for a villain? If not, I could see the movie being kind of unsatisfying. But it sounds edgier and more interesting than Sweet Hereafter, a film whose merits I don't really see. Mixing pedophilia with that kind of tragedy ends up being weird. Exotica is much superior.

Yeah I found The Sweet Hereafter to be overrated. Definitely more excited to see Exotica now!

John Mark Byers, adoptive father of one of the victims, is an incredibly compelling suspects and all but confesses in the documentaries. Unless there's some major changes it seems that's where the alternate-suspect angle would have to go.
