 The Dark Knight Rises
So Chris Nolan announced the title for the next batman film. The Dark Knight Rises. I personally think its a pretty lame title. He also announced that, contrary to popular belief, The Riddler will not be in the film.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I'd comment but then I'd have some de-winding of the sails when Ken arrives to say But, for the title which Nolan has apparently confirmed, I'll say this: just as bland as The Dark Knight and a little better than the meh-inducing Batman Begins. I think Nolan should go all Berlin Alexanderplatz on the next chapter and animate parts of it, have a few scenes done in mime, have fourteen actresses of different ethnicities play the part of Bruce Wayne, and subtitle every scene with the script from Happy Gilmore. Then, at the end, I want Bruce Wayne to travel back in time and visit Adolph Hitler and shoot him repeatedly with a dart gun until the screen is covered in blood. And then I want Bruce Wayne to write his name in the blood, wink at the camera, and stare back at the audience for 3 hours. INDICTING THEM. I'd also like to see a few dance numbers, some tasteful nudity from Anne Hathaway (who will be playing the roles of Alfred, Lucious Fox and Wayne's experimental side), and at least three scenes all done in Anthony Burgess's Nadsat language. That would be cool! Plus new guns and Batman's new car: a unicycle that has a little pink horn on it! Awesome! And also I want to see Batman beat up a homeless guy and say "Keep the change!" And I also think it would be cool if Batman wore the skin of The Joker as a Battolloween costume and went trick or treating at a state-run daycare. NEAT!! And also Batman would learn how to love by befriending a lonely man-child he meets when doing his community service. They would fight crime together and cook pasta. And then Batman and Harvey Dent's soul reconstituted in a chimp would have erotic misunderstandings. 'Cause it's called The Dark Knight Rises Batman should also suffer from erectile dysfunction which gets him into all kinds of uncomfortable situations. Then, at the end after he's killed Hitler and indicted the audience, I want the camera to pan back while it shows Bruce Wayne repeatedly punching his crotch and screaming "WORK!" And then he'll take seventeen capsules of Enzyte and a smile will creep across his face and he'll say "Insert movie title HERE!!!" before his erection knocks the camera over and the credits zoom by REAL FAST!

TDKR is a bland title. I'm glad the Riddler will not be included, one of the lamest Batman villains and just villains in general.
Am I the only one hoping for Mad-Hatter?

[Quote shortened for space] I'd pay $10 to see Major's adaptation. Pity they've decided not to shoot it in 3-D.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I heard that Nolan was trongly leaning towards having Catwoman as the main villain, that would certainly be interesting, what actress do you think should play Catwoman?

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Marion Cotillard would've been my #1 choice for Catwoman, but apparently she already turned the role down. Just as long as they don't get Angelina Jolie I'll be happy...

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Well I wouldn't worry too much about that since it's highly unlikely Jolie would settle for a role like that anyways, personally i'd love to see either Ellen Page or Lindsay Lohan take on the role.

The day Chris Nolan works with Lindsay Lohan is the day I stop watching films all together.

The Dark Knight Rises. Does that mean Batman's going to die?
Yeah right. Silly Pedro.

Neither them have enough oomph imo. Would even prefer Jolie over either, though Jolie's not someone I want to see in it either.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Silly title. Both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are much better.
I can't say that I care for majoraphasia's idea. I've soured on backwards time-travel recently because it's impossible, no? Not sure if my thinking is correct but if backwards time travel exists then we assume we have future selves. And if our future selves had invented backwards time travel don't you think they would have already travelled back in time and killed Hitler?
I'd much prefer a movie with "time-travel" to the future. I'm putting time-travel in quotes because it isn't exactly time-travel. I'm talking about time dilation. You know, fly at or near the speed of light for a while and you don't really age. Everyone else does though. Bring on The Forever War, Ridley Scott.
Oh...Batman...I doubt any villain can be as interesting as Ledger's Joker so it's likely that we'll be a little disappointed. I think it's time to take this tale into the future and make Batman old ala The Dark Knight Returns.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
If we do that we'll even have a good explanation for why the Joker's not around anymore.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I bought that over the summer (in the midst of The Great Graphic Novel read-off that resulted in From Hell rising to the top of a pretty nice pile) but never even took the price sticker off. There was a section that involved a battle between Superman and Batman and figured that I'd need some background before diving in. That never happened.

I beg to differ and say that the title is totally OK with definite Gothic undertones.
Just think what it might have been

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
The book itself contains all you need to know. The Dark Knight Returns is a self-contained story that runs on its own internal logic. It is also, I humbly submit, the most incendiary statement on superhero fiction I've ever read. (Not literally incendiary. It's one of them metaphorical things.) As for everybody complaining about the title of the new movie: remember when the first pics of the Tumbler hit the Internet and everybody thought it was lame? Remember when it was first announced that the gay cowboy from Brokeback Mountain was cast as the Joker and everybody thought it was lame? Maybe crow tastes even better the third time.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I believe this third film will be more like a thematic counterpart to The Dark Knight where Batman Begins was the origin story. The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, the first is the fall from grace and the second is the rise to glory (or if you asked Major to write the film, a more personal examination of Batman's sexual life). I understand, I can dig it.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I'm kind of disappointed that The Riddler isn't the villain. I've always liked him, but the character has usually been played with a lot of comic overtones (such as when Jim Carrey did the role). However, I think The Riddler can be imagined as a really psychologically disturbed (and disturbing) character. But that's just my take.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
So no Riddler and no Penguin? (Nolan apparently said in an interview he never liked the latter.) He's going to deny us two more of the remaining 'Big Five' (Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, Two-Face), leaving us only the option of Catwoman? Does anyone actually even care about any other villain in the Batman universe besides those five? I sure don't.
