 Re: Tony Scott RIP
My first guess would be "cancer" but I could be way off the mark.
If there was no note, we'll never really know for sure.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
Holy crap. I wasn't such a big fan of his movies, but still... we've lost a decent human being who cared enough about this art form to devote his life to it, and that is always a tragedy.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
There was a suicide note found in his car, I too thought it was cancer or some other terminal illness. On a related note, I wonder what's going to happen with that planned Top Gun sequel now.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
Very sad news. We've lost many greats this year. My sympathies go out to his family.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
A better film maker than his brother. Yes he did some garbage, but it was knowing garbage.
RIP

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
Come now. Ridley's made some stinkers, but he also made Alien and Blade Runner. Tony's made a lot of stinkers, and hasn't made Alien and Blade Runner

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
I'll grant Ridley that Blade Runner and Alien are more artistic that anything Tony did.
But if we pull it back to the last 20 years, all I can say is this - Tony's films entertain me, Ridley's (mostly) don't. Tony knew what he was. Ridley tries to be profound, and has mostly failed.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
I was never a big fan of Tony Scott's work, but he made one truly exceptional film, and it was his last - Unstoppable.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
While he made a few films that I enjoyed and quite a few that I didn't, I say let's not lose sight of the fact that a human being has died here. A human being with a family mourning his loss. My condolences to them.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
I'd file that one (along with True Romance, Crimson Tide, The Last Boy Scout, Man On Fire and Domino) solidly in the like column.Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop II are ones I liked as a kid yet am fairly ambivalent towards now. The Fan was easily his worst, Taking Of Pelham 123 was entertaining but forgettable and Spy Game was overlong. Scott may not have been an auteur or even on the level of Ridley's best. But his popcorn pictures were better than those by the likes of Mcihael Bay (aside from The Rock).

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
Agreed, Ridley's output after Alien and Blade Runner has been unimpressive to say the least, Promoetheus was a real letdown for me and the less said about Robin Hood, the better.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
The Fan didn't really do much for me either, good performances, not so great story, wasn't all that big on "Revenge" either.

It's really sad.
When stuff like this happens, I'm always reminded of Dave Chappelle's rant about what Hollywood does to people.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
My condolences go to his family. Tony wasn't the greatest of filmmakers, but he did make at least 2 films that I liked: The Last Boy Scout and Man on Fire.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
It's been revealed that he had inoperable brain cancer.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
Yeah that really sucks, hard to blame someone for commiting suicide if they know they're going to die soon anyways.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
And now it's coming out that Scott didn't have brain cancer at all, so the mystery deepens still.

 Re: Tony Scott RIP
What happened is terrible, but let me compare for a second:
Ridley Scott (Top Tier): Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) (Mediocre but still good): American Gangster, Body of Lies (Guilty Pleasures): White Squall,
Tony Scott: (Top Tier): True Romance (Mediocre but still good): The Last Boy Scout, Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State, Spy Game, Deja Vu, Man on Fire, Unstoppable (Guilty Pleasures): Top Gun, Days of Thunder
Ridley Scott is the clear winner to me.
