Ok, Bauer flipping that mobile home with a bulldozer was really pushing it...since when does Bauer operate heavy machinery?

In the first episode of Season 5, Jack is hiding out and doing construction work as Frank Flynn. There you have it.

Great episode. 24 did the 180 again on an unlikeable character -- Senator Meyer -- and created a great mini arc. Jack's reaction while typical still felt very real. He called Jack "son," a nice touch by the writers.

I was thinking the episode was slow until the last five minutes, which really went all out. Nice surprise with the bulldozer (didn't see it coming). Next week looks like more generic gunfights, but at least Tony's in.

I was NOT expecting the senator to be shot. I was quite mad. But then again, it's 24.

And, it's IMDb official, Kim is coming back in the 20th episode, May 4!

Hell Yeah, another episode of awesome from 24.

- Jack and Tony= awesome. So happy to see them back in action together.

Loved how Tony was trying to talk Jack out of saving the Security Guard, saying it would comprimise the mission. We have seen how Jack has rubbed off on Renee, now it seems Renee has rubed off on Jack a bit too. It was also refreshing cause I expected the poor guy to get killed when Jack and Tony tried to steal the bio-weapon.

- Major props to Larry Moss for using his brain. Seeing the evidence and realising something didnt add up, then talks to Renee to try and figure out if Jack really is telling the truth. This is why I like his character.

- Sucks Renee was still in holding this week, but she'll finally be back in action next week for sure.

- Okay, I like her character but man Olivia is a MAJOR B*TCH! Oh she masterfully screwed Ethan over. If she keeps leaking info it's going to come back and bit her in the ass big time, I can see it coming.

- Great shootout at the shipyard, freaking loved how Jack hijacked the truck with the toxin in it, but it sucks that Starkwood stole it back!

- CRAP! They caught Tony!! Hated that part.

- Oh sh*t, Jack got exposed to the toxin!! Hopefully Starkwood made a antidote cause I have a feeling Jack is going to have a internal clock for how long he's got before he gets sick and dies.

Next Week: Oh yeah, Renee is totally falling for Jack, that look on her face when Larry tells her Jack got exposed to the toxin said it all for me. Jack having to get sprayed down and examined, that means he's gonna be out of action for a bit next week, dammit. Nice to see the President telling Moss and co to go after Starkwood, but Hodges is ready for em.

Oh and Hodges having Tony tortured....not good. Hope Tony can hold out 'till Jack rescues him.

I think Bauer said his best one-liner in a few seasons: It would be 2 vs. 9!

But I don't think that toxin will be hinder Jack, remember that he died. Death just made him blink.

Seeing they're already in the works for Season 8 of "24", that could be a problem....

Totally loved Jack's "Two versus NINE" line to Tony also, this season has been loaded with great lines.

Yeah, Jack's not going to let some toxin exposure stop him from saving the day.

Post Re: 24 (SPOILERS WELCOME)
I don't know if Jack will be back in action next week, but the week after that I expect him to be in full-fledged "dammit!" mode. They probably won't be needing him, as the FBI and military seem to get the brunt of the action next week. Starkwood's soldiers vs. the U.S. forces should make for an exciting battle.

It will be interesting to see the political fallout from the news coverage of Ethan's involvement in the senator's death. I too think it will bite Olivia in the ass, as she assured her mom that she had killed the story. Now that it's out, will the president trust her? I sure hope not.

Good to see the First Gentleman is OK. I really like his character, and hope he's in more episodes this season.

Post Re: 24 (SPOILERS WELCOME)
I am a novice to 24. My wife and I have just finished watching season 1. In the course of "day 1", some peculiarities have caught my eye. I hope some cognescenti can enlighten me on these issues:

- Women in 24 are primarily victims (the Bauer family, the senator's daughter) or traitors (Nina Meyers, Jamey Whatshername, the senator's wife, two of the senator's aides). In fact, apart from the impostor who "helped" Bauer's wife looking for her daughter, all traitors appear to be female. Is this observation correct and, if so, has somebody ever argued that the series is mysoginistic?

- In 24's Los Angeles, you can get to any place in the city within 30 - 40 minutes by car. I've never been to Los Angeles and don't know all that much about it, but is this even remoteley realistic? (Not that I demand realism in a fiction series, although I found the notion, that it would be possible to identify a victim by its dental records within 20 minutes of the corpse being found, rather laughable.)

- The plot started repeating itself after midday: Terrorists abduct Bauer's family about three times in total in order to force Bauer to kill Palmer, although this very plan was foiled by Bauer's unwillingness to go through with it the first time around. Bauer's family is abducted twice from CTU or police custody. (Doesn't speak well for the professionalism of either CTU or the terrorists, does it?) Does this happen in the following seasons, too?

First point....I never thought about it but for the most part you're kinda right. But men are starting to be moles and traitors in the later seasons.

Second point: Doubtful but who cares, you should be on the edge of your seat not thinking of these things!

Third point: Well it's kinda true cause the main threat is neutralized by mid-season and there's a new, bigger threat they have to face. But I don't think they're too similar in future seasons.

1) I used to notice this but then it's the whole bias thing: when one woman betrays then your mind looks for it. Almost all the villains are men and there are plenty of male moles. There has also been every race of villain imaginable: sneaky Europeans, evil Muslims, black henchmen, evil blonde woman in Season 2. There has also been all sorts of good guys imaginable: black president, female president, Michelle Dessler (half-Asian even), and a Muslim terrorist turned good.

2) Transportation times and even transition times are never realistic in 24. I think they tried for realism in the first few episodes but just forgot about it. It would suck to watch everyone driving around for forty minutes.

3) Plotlines and certain conventions tend to get re-iterated (or straight up repeated, e.g. Season 6) in 24verse. There's always following the lead, lead gets killed the second before he talks, breaking the perimeter, torture for info, difficult moral choices, weak government leaders, Jack's curse.

Ooooo Bauer's infected...like he's not going to be suddenly immune, beat the disease with his fists or had crappy blood tests messing things up.

Post Re: 24 (SPOILERS WELCOME)
Loved tonight's episode.

- Dammit, Jack's been infected and right now they don't have a cure! I don't think Jack is going to die anytime soon
so hopefully they come up with a cure, or Starkwood has one.

- Loved Renee tonight, great acting from Annie Wersching. Her reaction to findng out Jack got exposed was awesome, esp her shedding a tear. Oh yeah, she has fallen for Jack HARD. You could see the panic and worry when she found out he was infected and Dr. Mercer said they dont have a cure right now. Nice reaction from her at seeing Jack's scared body. That whole conversation in the room was great, esp when Renee praised him for saving the security guard last week. I love how the Jack/Renee relationship has evolved this season. It's been great.

- Also loved Larry taking action this week, and his willingness to work with Tony. Also liked him telling Renee for suspending her and not trusting her, letting his issues with Jack and his methods get in the way.

- Should have known that Seaton guy was playing Tony and Larry, but it didn't dawn on me till they arrived outside the warehouse and I was like "Oh this is a setup!" and it was, but it was Seaton misdirecting them to buy Hodges more time to get the Bio-Weapon ready.

- I'm happy Olivia asked Aaron to come out of retirement and protect her, hopefully Aaron can teach Olivia some things. She worries me right now, esp now that she's acting Chief of Staff.

- President Taylor was great this week, she's not hesitating and is ready to do what it takes to stop Starkwood.

- It sucks Larry didn't let Jack go with him, but maybe that will work in their favor next week. Jack and Renee need to come up with something to get Larry and Tony out of the standoff their in with Stokes and his men.

- Oh, and props to the showrunners from bringing back Dr. Sunny Macer, she appeard back in Season 3 when they dealt with the bio-threat from Saunders. Like it when they bring back characters like that when you least expect it.

Good stuff this week, only complaint is Jack didn't get to do much this week. Hoping that changes next week.

Speaking of Next Week: Looks like Hodges tries to play a chess game with Larry, Tony and the President. Acting like they haven't done anything and daring them to do something so he can fight back. It's going to be interesting to see how Larry and Tony get out of this jam. Olivia looks to be following the Sherry Palmer playbook next week, having to sleep with her reporter friend so he won't leak the story about the Starkwood Bio-Weapon.

Oh, and seeing Jack collapse at FBI and Renee freaking out as she calls for a medic....NOT GOOD! Not good at all.

I hate waiting 7 days.

Mon Mar 30, 2009 10:37 pm
Post Re: 24 (SPOILERS WELCOME)
Of course Jack's not going to die. They still have a movie to make! I suspect that it will come to light that Starkwood has managed to develop a cure for anyone infected, just in case one of their own men got exposed.

I actually thought that the FBI helicopters were going to be shot down by Starkwood as they approached, and Larry was going to get killed. He still may get killed off though. Looks like a tense standoff developing.

Poor Aaron! All the guy wanted to do was go home, have a few drinks, and sleep for the next two days. Then that uber-bitch of a First Daughter has to stop him. If this somehow results in Aaron's death...

I wish they had covered the news story that Olivia had leaked to the press about Ethan. It was supposed to air at eleven, yet there was no mention of it. I would have loved to see the political fallout from that.

Awesome and suspenseful episode tonight.

- Loved how Jack and Renee were working in tandem tonight, they do make a great team. I'm glad Larry was skeptical
but went along with the plan to help Tony stay behind so he could find the Bio-Weapon with the help of the Starkwood Chairman.

- Renee was keeping one eye on the mission and one eye on Jack the entire hour. You could see the worry on her
face every time she saw Jack in pain. The scene where he collapsed in a seizure was scary stuff, but loved the next
one with with Dr Macer and they find out about a possible cure. Renee feelings for Jack are pretty evident, she wants him to fight to live but he of course is putting saving the country ahead of himself right now.

- Speaking of the possible cure, Dr Macer reveals an experimental treatment using stem cells from a relative. Well, that explains why Kim is going to come back. She can help save Jack, but of course Jack tells Renee he doesn't want to contact her, not even to tell her he's dying. The last time they spoke to each other was in Season 5 and they didn't part on good terms, as he mentioned to Renee. I think Renee is going to call Kim and tell her what's going on.

- Tony freaking owned this episode. He was in full bad ass mode. Loved his "I know what it is" reply to Janis and him
taking out those two guards was f'n awesome. So glad Tony got to kick some ass this week, and he was just as concerned about Jack as Renee was.

- That Ken the reporter was a slimeball, sooooo loved it how Olivia turned the tables on his blackmail. She rocks. I wonder
if Aaron figured out what was going on in there, knowing him I bet he did.

- Hodges is insane, my jaw dropped when he killed the Chairman there. He feels betrayed by the country he loves and it's caused him to snap, its about revenge and payback it seems.

- Can't believe he threatened the President like that, you try and bomb me I will launche the misseles and kill thousands. Taylor sure has her hands full next week with Hodges coming to see her in the Oval Office.

Next Week: Glad Taylor fills Jack and Renee in on Hodge's Threat and Jack telling her to trust him to stop Hodges. Tony fighting with what looks like Stokes, trying to stop the missles from launching but "your too late" is very chilling. Next week looks to be really darn good.

Next Monday needs to come quickly.

Post Re: 24 (SPOILERS WELCOME)
- Even though I still don't like Olivia, I must say I have to give her props for how she handled the reporter. And I'm sure Aaron knew what was going on. Olivia said she was going to be done in two minutes, yet was in there for about half an hour. Aaron's no dummy!

- This was one of the more tense episodes I've seen of any season of the show. Opening with the standoff between Starkwood's men and the FBI, and ending with the standoff between the president and Hodges. Man!

- I think Renee will go behind Jack's back and contact Kim. That's how she'll come back on the show. One question for those of us who remember season five: think Kim is still banging C. Thomas Howell?

- Next week looks very good. It appears that a missile has been launched. If this were any other show, I might be extremely skeptical that this was the case. But 24 blew up an atomic bomb in Los Angeles, so it's possible that a missile does launch.

Post Re: 24 (SPOILERS WELCOME)
When she first appeared, I thought Olivia was there to look as if she was bad but really wasn't. (I thought the same about Sean) I found it a little disappointing that it was so obvious who they were, because I wanted to have an ally that you have to hate. Turns out not, though.

I kind of feel bad for Aaron. It's obvious all he wants to do is go home but Olivia is having him tag along all the time! The more episodes Aaron is in, the greater the likelihood he'll die! He can't!

BTW, Kim coming back is actually something I'm looking forward to. She hasn't been seen since Day 5 (and before that, Day 3), so the writers might portray her differently. Hopefully she's matured and become less annoying. It's nice to see characters from older seasons come, I'd like the Logans to return as well as some of the staff of CTU over the years. (I have a soft spot for cameos). Maybe Josh and Marilyn Bauer returning?

The missiles might launch, but I don't think so. They jumped the shark last season and this is a "reboot" in a sense. 24 has done well, instead of beginning with a bang then sputtering to the end, they've built up the tension this season VERY well.

Finally, (I know, this is a little long) Jon Voight is now the greatest villain ever in 24. It's like watching a Bond villain every week and Jon Voight says his lines with such energy that you BELIEVE it! It's amazing that they get big names, and that is definitely helping 24. (They should have Harrison Ford play the President and get Air Force One hijacked by terrorists!.... wait......)

From the spoilers I've seen, Kim is not with C. Thomas Howell's character anymore. She's with a new guy.

Fox put a new preview of Monday's episode on the official 24 website, it shows Kim coming to the FBI and her
and Jack talking. So it looks to me that Renee calls Kim all right.

It's going to be a really emotional reunion from what they showed. I can't wait.
