Hell yeah, she better take it. With this show, she can win the award she should've won for ZERO DARK THIRTY. :)

Uh, is this a joke or just a mistake? Because True Detective is a television series, not a movie. She wouldn't be up for an Oscar (and personally while Chastain was a close second, I would have given it to Naomi Watts), she'd be up for an Emmy.

Neither. What I meant was that she should've won an Oscar for ZDT, and that an Emmy for TD would make up for that. Both are the acting awards you shoot for in those respective fields, and one is as good as the other.

So this comes out on Bluray this coming week. Question for all those who have seen it: is it worth a blind $40 purchase? I've been intrigued by the series right from the beginning, so much so that I considered subscribing to HBO just to follow along. Didn't happen though, so I've purposefully avoided most of the in-depth discussion here, but just skimming briefly through the thoughts it seems like something I need to catch up with.

Blondy I think you'd really enjoy it. It's full of depth (a lot of existentialism and other philosophy), really great performances, solid characters, and a lot of tension and mystery.

I bought this a couple three days ago and I'm three episodes in. Probably some of the best filmmaking ever seen in television. The whole feel of it is just very cinematic. The characters are being well developed so far and everything seems to mean something. Being a very existential person myself, I'm very interested in McConaughey's character and look forward to more of his philosophical musings.

It's one of the best television scenes I can ever recall. I remember watching that scene about five times and am a little skeptical it was done in one shot. (See earlier in this thread) There is a part when the screen goes black when the camera zooms up towards the helicopter, which made me wonder if that was a break in the sequence. Also too, when MM drags the bikie across a white sheet on a clothesline, maybe that was another chance to say cut. I really don't know though. Tracking shot or impeccably edited, that sequence was amazing and incredibly intense.

The commentary is included for this episode in the DVD set I bought. Once I watch it I'll let you know what the showrunners have to say about the composition of the shot.
