Post Twin Peaks
I just watched through the entire series and the movie here over the last two weeks or so and I'm dying over here wanting to get into discussions about it. How did everyone else feel about the series after Lynch and Frost lost creative control about seven or so episodes into season two? What about that last episode, how did you feel about the direction Lynch took it and what about that ending? Don't forget the movie...

Post Re: Twin Peaks
Well I own Season 1 and the movie (Fire Walk With Me) on DVD. I have seen all and I certainly will see it again. I only remember season 2 from way back when it aired on tv. Wastn't the very end something like agent Cooper smashing his forehead into a mirror?

I will have to get season 2 ASAP. I know that Lynch's initial idea was that the identity of Laura Palmer's murderer will never be revealed, but the pressure from "above" wanted a solution.

[Reveal] Spoiler:
I personally always thought that the father has something to do with it (either he is the murderer, or knows him) - also: it simply was too obvious that something incestuous was going on between him and his daughter: it is the ONLY possibility in that kind of storytelling

There may be a lot of flaws in the entire series plus the movie (which didn't add anything IMHO), but Twin Peaks defintely was one of the very best tv shows ever. I still wonder how this got to be made, who greenlighted this? It is absolutely nightmarish, it started the "one episode is one day" idea. It featured some of the hottest, unbelievably beautiful magical badass girls (not the usual prom queen/blonde cheerleader-bimbo variety) on the planet at the time - I just thought: "Wowsa! Where the hell did the filmmakers find these gals - I never saw anything remotely similar in the movies). The comic relief was not exaggerated, just right (something missing in the movie).
It all took place in the mostly rainy Pacific Northwest (something not beaten to death like NYC, Las Vegas or downtown LA) and I think it was more "lynchian" than many a David Lynch movie. The atmosphere is close to perfection, because many things seem familiar from our nightmares, scary, as if the filmmakers know us - yet we can't get enough of it.
Will get Season 2 ASAP.

I watched Season 1 last year randomly after hearing great things about it. Never got around to Season 2.

Season 1 is pretty terrific, while definitely flawed (it got a little boring in stretches, at least for me). Let's just go ahead and say that Agent Cooper is one of the best characters, TV or film, created, right? Phenomenal use of atmosphere to add to the dread and despair that you know exists somewhere beneath the likable look of the town. Once school finishes up and I have more time on my hands, I'll definitely get around to watching Season 2.
