Anyone remember "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr."?
Does anyone remember this show from about 1993/1994? Somewhere in the Early 90s. It was great! I always wondered what happened to it, and if the DVD interviews are believed The X-Files happened and this got the axe to make room. It starred Bruce Campbell (Always a plus ) and was a good mixture of satire and tribute to westerns and old cliffhangers. The show was really funny while also being very smart, clever, and giving us genuinely exciting adventures in the process. It also had a ton of great supporting characters, I always loved the old scientist Dr. Albert Wickwire played by John Astin. He was hilarious and the ways his inventions mix into the adventures were always entertaining. Does anyone else remember this show at all? I've only found a few people who remember it, but the people I've found that do remember it loved it. It's probably far too late to hope for a revival especially since one of the creators died and I believe that John Astin is sadly late as well, but I'd still love to see Bruce Campbell take up the role again even if for just a brief period.

Re: Anyone remember "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr."?
I remember it quite well from the initial run on Fox. I never actually watched it during that time, but I have the impression that it preceded "The X-Files" on Friday nights. There were a series of shows that Fox tried in that slot (Brisco, Strange Luck, VR.5) to try and be a companion to X-Files, but none really took hold. I finally caught the whole series in the late 90's/early 2000's when it was being shown on one of the national cable networks (TNT, or USA perhaps) on Saturday mornings.
It was a fun series but I can see why it didn't last. The blend of Western and technology was successful 25 years earlier with "The Wild, Wild, West", but then you had the running story arc with the mysterious "orb" that was from outer space or some darn thing. Might have been a little to "out there" for a prime time network show. (Of course one of the creators WAS Carlton Cuse, of "Lost" fame, so go figure.)
Campbell was great and a lot of the throw away humor was very funny. You can get the whole series on DVD off E-bay for about $25.

From the DVD claims, it actually came after The X-Files and that it helped boost the X-Files initial ratings because a lot of people would catch bits of the X-Files when tuning in for this show. I love The X-Files, but I have to admit I wish this was the show that kept going.

Hmm...curious. I'm not going to go back to the TV Guide listings from 1993 or anuthing, but my memory (and the the Wikipedia entry) indicate it was before X-Files on Friday nights. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Brisco_County,_Jr.Wonder why they would say different on the DVD. X-Files was certainly the more "adult" of the 2 series and would certainly warrant the later time slot.

Wow, I can't believe you're bringing this show up! I loved it. I was in about the fourth grade when it aired, and I have found memories of the series. My whole family would enjoy it, it was just great. I loved the orb! I would make up stories about the series and even act it out with my cousin who also watched the show (ummm I was like eight years old, so...). I wish they wouldn't have taken it off, what was it on for, about a year? By the way, dosen't the guy who played the lawer on Brisco play in CSI: Miami now? Anyway thanks for bringing this topic up, it was fun!

Ah yes...good old "Socrates Poole", as played by Christian Clemenson. According to IMDB, he is indeed on "CSI: Miami," though I don't watch that show. I do recall picking out Mr. Clemenson in smaller parts in The Big Lebowski and United 93, and also some TV commercials here and there. It seems his career has mostly been second banana roles and guest spots; his highlights (and by that I mean "longevity") seeming to be "Brisco," "CSI:Miami" and "Boston Legal". Of those, I only watched "Brisco".
