Friday Night Lights (Spoilers)

Post Friday Night Lights (Spoilers)
I really, really like this show. It has some of the best characters on TV, and I really find myself caring about their various stories, and I am fascinated by the way the writers and directors, and the whole production gets us to feel as if this is real life.

Any other fans?

I also love this show. There are some maudlin moments, but most of them are earned: Smash finally getting his ride to college, winning State, Tyra's (wonderful) monologue in her college essay, Street moving away...etc. etc. None of those happened in Season 2...not a coincidence.

I actually think FNL and The Wire have a lot in common: they both present characters with extreme flaws, and they both evoke worlds that most of us know little about. Don't get me wrong, this show doesn't even touch The Wire, but it's still about as good as "mainstream" television gets.

I might be alone here, but I hope Season 3 is their last. It was a phenomenal finale for the show, and I feel like it would be pretty contrived for them to bring too many of the characters back. It wouldn't be FNL anymore without Riggins.

I wouldn't say that I hope the show ends after this season, just because it is so entertaining, but I don't really see how it could continue. It is in a bad time slot, doesn't get great numbers from viewers, and all the main characters are seniors, unless they want to show that Dillon,Texas goes on without them.

Well they'd be bringing in an entirely new cast. The Wire managed to do this almost every season with great success, but they managed to keep a lot of the bit players in smaller roles.

I think that's one way the show could continue, introducing new characters but keeping us up to date on some of the others. They don't need to be big players anymore, run them out like Street.

Either way, barring a few plot-line missteps, the series as a whole is fantastic. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in southern middle-class America.

It would be a good idea to introduce new characters, while maintaining others, like The Wire. However, from what I've heard, Friday Night Lights is struggling to stay on TV, as the network wants to cancel it... so I do not think that they're budget is big enough to do something like that.

Friday Night Lights is, without question, my favorite television show. I love the way that it's shot, and how focused it is on its characters. I also like the way it never makes the conventional choice, such as making the QB that replaced Matt this season a stereotypical douchebag.

I think JB's personality reflects a lot heavier on his parents than it does himself. He seems like a decent kid with a shitty dad.

Agreed. His father is one of those typical parents who push their children way too far. While JB has great talent, and is utilizing it right now, I feel like all of that pressure is going to backfire, and something will happen.

Oh for sure. He'll dive into the coke when the pressure mounts too high, and come out of rehab after the team loses State wanting to place soccer instead.

Great episode last night. And we got to see more of J.D.

If you're watching the show on NBC you might want to stay out of this thread. The entire third season has already aired on the Dish Network(and the Internet).

I'll just throw in my opinion of the episodes I see here and there. I won't read too much.

Nothing has really been revealed, but how mad would of you been had I said "LANDRY CLEARED OF ALL CHARGES" after the first episode of his stupid sub-plot with Tyra.

Poor guy.

As per usual, I will not read the rest of the thread and simply say that last week's episode was very good and very moving.

Thought I'd chime in with my weekly take: Last night's episode was good as usual. I was so happy when Landry asked Tyra what changed in her life to make her less angry, and she didn't say "I met you" immediately, although she eventually did. For some reason the episode underwhelmed me a bit, probably because the big focus of it was a game, which I never find as interesting as the characters themselves outside of football.
