 V
Anyone going to give the new V a shot? I probably will but a) is a re-make of a middle of the road SciFi show from the 80's really necessary (Battlestar Galactica notwithstanding) b) I think that ABC has mis-managed the promotion with the freaky short-haired brunette all over the place in commercial breaks.

 Re: V
Sure if it can be improved, why not improve it?

 Re: V
V was brilliant because nobody expected to turn out the way it did. In some ways it was a happy accident. If it is made again every one will know what to expect and it won't have the same impact as it did back in the 80's.

 Re: V
I agree with this. Like Knight Rider, V is a concept that just doesn't lend itself to a remake because the novelty's worn off, IMO.

 Re: V
I don't know if I'd go so far as to say "brilliant." I think I was 14 or 15 when the original V mini-series came out. My impression is that the original mini-series was pretty slow. My sci-fi craving brain was a bit bored after the first episode or 2. The second mini-series had a lot more action so I enjoyed it more, but in retrospect, some of the story lines got a little soapy. The short-lived TV series was largely forgettable and unnecessary. We'll see if 21st century special effects do more or less for the series (i.e. glitzier effects at the expense of narrative).

 Re: V
Well...the premiere wasn't terrible...but it wasn't great either. Special effects were very well done and they've kind of telegraphed where the overall plot is going. I don't know that the concept will hold out for a 22-episode season over several years. There's only so much "resistance" that can keep an overall story going. The mini-series or movie format is less fatiguing than this could turn out to be.

 Re: V
It's a shame that Morena Baccarin felt the need to pay the bills by involving herself with this remake. I had some respect for her due to my fondness for the show Firefly, but that's pretty much faded now. How sad.

 Re: V
The resistance is the whole story From what I understand the writer origionally wanted to tell the story on how the Jews came to be persecuted . He was going to show how the persecution of the jews started first as small things then gradually got bigger, . But he couldn't get any financing for it. So he made it into a scfi story, which were popular at the time, replacing Jews with Scientists/doctors , Nazi's with the aliens and German society with rest of the world. This is an example of the happy accidents which occured during this series.

 Re: V
Resistance being the story is not necessarily a bad thing. I quite enjoyed "Defiance" when I saw it recently (as a corollary to the original mini-series concept), but that had a beginning, middle and end. But an open ended TV show? I don't know. You'll never get any satisfaction because the resistance will never get anywhere because if the resistance goes anywhere and wins, well...that's the end of the show. If the producers have a defined story arc (like "Babylon 5" or, now, "Lost"), then you may have something there. But this is a story that, in my opinion, you can't really keep open ended. Of course they could throw some curve balls in there (like another, less advanced alien race coming to help somewhere down the line) to keep it interesting, but over all, the humans gotta win or the humans gotta lose. I don't know how much Joe Six-Pack will put up with 2-steps forward, 3-steps back in fighting the menace. With all that said, I guess "Hogan's Heroes" was a resistance show and it lasted 6 seasons.

 Re: V
I've been told some people are upset because they feel this delivers a conservative political message. If this is true I'd bet these angry folks have no problems with the liberal political messages many shows now deliver.
Either way I can't see myself watching this. I'm not huge into sci-fi and I really don't watch much television aside from NBC on Thursday night (The Office & 30 Rock).
