Has anyone here ever seen "father Ted"
I was just wondering if any of you out there have ever seen a sitcom called "Father Ted" or "The IT Crowd"
Father Ted is a comedy set on a Island just of the cost of West Ireland called Craggy Islnad. It starred Dernot Morgan as Father Ted. It's about how a priest all all the silly scenarios he gets into, like getting lost in a lingeree dept. it was extremly tongue and check and it pulled absolutely no punches
The IT Crowd was written by the same people and was of the same style.

Both excellent comedies! Doogle Maguire is such a fantastic character.
I love Richard Ayeode as well. For the simple fact they got Chris Morris in as well; The IT is brilliant.

I watched a few episodes of Father Ted but never got hooked. I suppose some would call it gentle humour. I thought it a quite well observed character study but not really my thing.

I've seen about 4 episodes -- 2 of which were pretty funny, the other 2, not so much.

Re: Has anyone here ever seen "father Ted"
Some episodes are more irreverent than others; those are the ones that make the not-so-funny ones (first series in particular) worthy enough. One poster said it could be called "gentle humor" although I don't really see it -- it takes place on an island that is populated entirely by wayward priests, couples who try to murder one another but for all of the priests interrupting the stabbings, one major character considers Catholicism pretty hilarious, and another major character is a drunken, cursing ball of lust 100% of the time.
"Old Grey Whistle Theft", "A Song For Europe", "Are You Right There, Father Ted?", "Chirpy Burpy Cheap Sheep" and "Kicking Bishop Brennan up the Arse" were all hilarious. I had a good time going through this show, one of the more pleasant nightly diversions on Netflix for a couple of weeks.

I watched Father Ted at the time of its first run in the 90s and believe it or not it was considered quite controversial for Irish actors to mock the Catholic Church in any way at all.
It all ended with the shock, premature death of Dermot Morgan (Ted) of a heart attack at a mere 45 years old.
