President to give aid to Middle East, sanctions on Syria
Barack Obama to back Middle East democracy with billions in aid
Does this really put us "at the forefront of the democracy movement"? Aren't we trillions in debt?? Where is this aid coming from? Is this, like so many other U.S. foreign policies regarding the Middle East, going to come back and bite us in the ass?? And why did the King of Jordan get so much money? They aren't even revolting in Jordan, last I heard (or are they?).
I mean, I'm glad we're not propping up and supporting dictators in that region of the world anymore. But I can't help but think there are ulterior motives going on here. It's still more interventionism. As the taxpayers are going to be the ones paying for it, I say we demand receipts and track all that money to make sure it actually goes towards building a better environment for the people who live there. Actually, if I had the choice I'd stop it all together.
Wouldn't the best way to promote democracy be to improve our own, and lead by example?
