Listening to tracks from The Promise, the new collection of unreleased songs from Bruce Springsteen's Darkness On The Edge Of Town period.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... =130858856

It's just completely fantastic in every way possible.

The only song I like by Nickelback is "How You Remind Me". I actually think Kroeger has talent, which he has shown with Santana before ("Into the Night" - gorgeous song)

Thanks for reminding me of that.

+1 for linking to an NPR story. I thought I was the only one.

+2 for finding something awesome in something you thought you knew. I'm jealous.

Been listening to a band that's been mostly forgotten today-Crazy Town, it's a shame that they're mostly known for "Butterfly" as they've got plenty of other great songs, like "Toxic" "Darkside" "Drowning" "Think Fast" "Take It To The Bridge" "Black Cloud" etc, there's been talk of them reuniting for a third album, which I do dope will happen, though I won't quite be the same without DJ Am.

I'm listening to the latest Signal podcast (http://signal.serenityfirefly.com/mmx/). It has two articles by me yay :D Yes this was totally a desperate semi-self promotion.

Tool - Aenema

Love these lyrics. Some of the best ever written:

Quote:
Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks
Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.
It's a
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks
Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.
Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this
Stupid shit, silly shit, stupid shit.
One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.
Learn to swim x3.
Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim x8.
Fuck L Ron Hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.
Learn to swim x8.
Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.
Learn to swim x7.
Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.
Learn to swim x8.

'cause I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna see it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.
I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.
I wanna see it all come down.
Put it down.
Suck it down.
Flush it down.

Tool is the shiznit. They take themselves a little too seriously sometimes but, again, they're the shiznit. I don't see the drop in quality for 10,000 Days that others do. Can't wait for their next album (apparently they've begun working on it.)

This is a popular myth. I don't doubt that some people take them too seriously, but they themselves have pranked their most ardent fans enough times to indicate that they're in on the comedy.

Well, I remember seeing an appearance Johnny Cash made on Letterman years ago, and Dave was praising Cash and expressing his admiration for his music. Letterman said something to the effect of, "Ya know, I think really good music has to scare you a little bit."

Tool scares me more than a little bit.

Peter Gabriel - Come Talk To Me

The wretched desert takes it's form, the jackal proud and tight
In search of you, I feel my way, though the slowest heaving night
Whatever fear invents, I swear it make no sense
I reach through the border fence
Come down, come talk to me

In the swirling, curling storm of desire unuttered words hold fast
With reptile tongue, the lightning lashes towers built to last
Darkness creeps in like a thief and offers no relief
Why are you shaking like a leaf
Come on, come talk to me

Ah please talk to me
Won't you please talk to me
We can unlock this misery
Come on, come talk to me

[Chorus 1:]
I did not come to steal
This all is so unreal
Can't you show me how you feel now
Come on, come talk to me
Come talk to me [x2]

The earthly power sucks shadowed milk from sleepy tears undone
From nippled skin as smooth as silk the bugles blown as one
You lie there with your eyes half closed like there's no-one there at all
There's a tension pulling on your face
Come on, come talk to me

Won't you please talk to me
If you'd just talk to me
Unblock this misery
If you'd only talk to me

[Chorus 2:]
Don't you ever change your mind
Now your future's so defined
And you act so deaf and blind
(And you act so deaf so blind)
Come on, come talk to me
Come talk to me [x2]

I can imagine the moment
Breaking out through the silence
All the things that we both might say
And the heart it will not be denied
'Til we're both on the same damn side
All the barriers blown away

I said please talk to me
Won't you please come talk to me
Just like it used to be
Come on, come talk to me
I did not come to steal
This all is so unreal
Can you show me how you feel now
Come on, come talk to me
Come talk to me [x2]

I said please talk to me
If you'd just talk to me
Unblock this misery
If you'd only talk to me

Kyuss' music (featuring a pre-Queens of the Stone Age Josh Homme) is almost 20 years old, but I'm only now discovering them. The phrase "Better Late than Never" has never been more applicable. I'm currently spinning their Sky Valley album and it's fantastic. It seems that Green Machine is their most popular song (a worthy choice), but I much prefer the creatively titled Supa Scoopa and Mighty Scoop. Give it a try. For me it was love on first listen.

I just want to go on record that, in a few years time when everyone suddenly goes "You know what? That Kanye West album was nothing special," I was the one who thought it was nothing special first.

Not before me, I never liked West much to begin with, and he's gotten less likeable every year since he first came out.

Josh Homme rules. Kyuss aren't as incredible as Queens (not as diverse and willing to push the experimentation) but it still beats the pants off of so much that was impressing young minds back when. Remember Teenage Fanclub? Exactly. Homme is one of the great guitarists, an actual lead guitarist, in modern rock and his compositions are always surprising, mega-pants clever.
