Today is Eric Clapton's birthday, and I've got him on shuffle in the iPod. Last song I heard was something off of "From the Cradle", a great album of blues.

Currently checking out the new Offspring CD.

Its ok, but their "political" approach is like 5 years late. "Kristy, Are you Doing Ok?", their single now, is just not a right fit for their strengths. "Hammerhead" is a blast though. Everything else is decent, but stick with "Splinter" and "Americana", far superior albums.

Currently i'm listening to Nuetral Milk Hotel. I've never really given those guys a chance but after hearing "you should listen to this" countless times, i've been listening to nothing else. Phenominal, specifically "Holland, 1945."

Oh and I have to endorse my fav local band, So Many Dynamos. They have a new record coming out on the 7th. From what i've heard at shows, it seems pretty great.

Yep, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is an absolute classic album.
Two-Headed Boy was always my favorite track though.

She's good; like Carole King with a longer list of influences.

Put on Cat Power's unplayed-until-now Jukebox and am currently not feeling it. Try again later, they say.

That's neat. Was it a random encounter or was it planned?

Coincidentally, the last song I heard was Across the Universe by the Beatles.

I believe he was guest conductor for the orchestra she is in.

The Hold Steady are a bunch of hacks. Boring bar rock hyped up as something relevant. It's nothing unique, it has no edge, and the band has a rudimentary understanding of their instruments. I could understand being into it if you've never heard a band trying to hash out covers in a dingy bar or at a shitty wedding.

Whatever happened to this guy? munroe, you still around?

I've been stockpiling music for the past six or so months and have just now gotten around to listening to "Stay Positive" by the aforementioned Hold Steady. It's only been two listens through but there is no mistaking this band -- great out of the gates 5 years ago -- as being irrelevant. Their first couple of albums were E-Street Band-like but with songwriting this great it doesn't matter in the least that I never once took off my headphones and shouted "My LORD! I've never heard anything like this before!" The music is exciting, the lyrics are undeniably great, and the band seems to be doing exactly what they want: playing songs about the strangeness of getting older. They may be rooted in a sound that has long since been mainstream radio friendly but it's no ironic joke on their end: this is sincere, well-conceived, thoughtful music by musicians that know how to get their ideas across without bringing their audience to yawns.

judgment - anathema
album-judgment

when you're in the mood for it, it doesn't get better than this. :D well it does, but only by the holy trinity - led zeppelin, porcupine tree, radiohead.

The Delgados - Keep on Breathing.

I should probably look into more of their stuff.
