Enter The Wu Tang 36 Chambers-Wu Tang Clan

This is one album that I've heard for many years. But because I was often with people who were listening to it I didn't get around to picking up a copy until fairly recently. Classic hip-hop no question. Bring da motherfunkin ruckus indeed.

"The Fox" by Ylvis. Apparently, this is supposed to be the viral successor to PSY's "Gangnam Style".

I dunno- that chorus is funny as hell, but this song overall isn't going to even come close to toppling PSY's musical nuking of pop culture in terms of views, IMO.

Mazzy Star's new record, their first since the mid-'90s. Makes for wonderful late-night listening, like a sultry reimagining of Ry Cooder's Paris, Texas soundtrack.

Pearl Jam's Lightning Bolt.

Their first studio album since 2009's Backspacer. On the whole I'd say it's about on a par with if maybe a tad ahead of that one. Not on the level of Vs/Vitalogy/Yield. But ahead of Binaural, Riot Act and No Code.

The first single "Mind Your Manners" recalls 1994's "Spin The Black Circle". But I still like it. Second single "Sirens" is easily one of their best ballads, the title song is fantastic, the opener "Getaway" is another great one.

***1/2.

The Roots: How I Got Over

When The Roots broke through in 1999 with the Things Falling Apart album, they restored my faith in hip-hop. Their live instruments and thoughtful lyrics were a breath of fresh air in an era of Master P bullshit.

How I Got Over is another great one.
