 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Thread revival:
My three most recent DVD purchases:
20th Anniversary edition of Blue Velvet (Bought at Barnes and Noble for about $12-15) Bought both A History of Violence and the special edition of Menace II Society at Wal-Mart for $5.30 each. In the case of Menace I was replacing the worn-out VHS of it I'd had since 1994. You can find some good movies in the Wal-Mart $5.00 bin.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Best Buy had Blu Ray version of Kill Bill parts 1 & 2 on sale for $6.99 each a week or 2 ago. I thought that was a sweet deal.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Today in the Best Buy Black Friday deals I scored Citizen Kane for ten bucks, Fargo for 7.99, Trainspotting for 4.99 and the last 2 Harry Potter's for ten bucks each all on Blu-Ray. I missed the 3.99 for Inception on Blu-Ray doorbuster.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Been a while, but most recent...
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly...Blu-Ray/DVD...$10
Coming To America/Trading Places...Blu-Ray Double Pack...$14
Three Amigos...DVD...$6
And then I was given a DVD of one of my favorite movies Swingers. This has to be about the 4th copy of this movie I have owned. It's one of those movies that I freely lend out to people hoping they love it. Inevitably they do and I tell them to keep it. I don't mind at all. Spread the word.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Although I haven't purchased it yet, I did order The Decalogue. I was told it could be many weeks due to it being deeply backordered and that was the very reason why I placed the order: I need to talk myself out of the purchase.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
After Christmas I had some change in my pocket goin' janga-langa-lang...
I drive past a very reliable pawn shop every day. There were a few gaps in my collection, so I picked up Natl Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Robocop, Demolition Man, and Silverado. The pawn shop guarantees them to play perfectly or will exchange or give money back. None were scratched, but Silverado looked like it was corroded internally (?) and had some skipping issues, so I got my 3$ back on that one. Total spent was less than 10$ for all DVD's. Silverado was the first poor playing disk I've ever gotten there. The shop won't take them in for pawn if they have ANY scratches at all, and they have a huge stock with more in unsorted totes in back. If you've never shopped pawn, be sure to hit one of your house-o-broken-dreams next chance you get.

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Heavens, no! I ordered it from B&N -- in the store -- for something like $80. It hasn't come in yet and I don't really believe it ever will.

For real(sies)? I'll shoot you my phone number. Maybe as a PM, maybe as a post in this thread so I can experience what it's like to be prank called by Jules Dassin fans.

For realsies. You might be the first lender that'll actually get through the film. (I've had two suitors that couldn't get through the first two episodes.)

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Been slowly buying back the movies I had to sell back at the end of 2009. So far I have Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, City of God and Fight Club back in my collections. I've been going to some local Blockbusters that are on the verge of closing down so I've been able to get some really good deals on these movies. I'm trying to systematically restore my collection to its former glory but I wanna wait until my financial situation is more stable to really splurge!

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
I grabbed some used DVDs from the bargain bin at $2.50 each: Rio Bravo, From Russia With Love, The Terminator, and The Aviator.
They had more Bond, but they didn't have Goldfinger or OHMSS, which are really the only other two I'd care to own.
Might watch one tonight!

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Finally bought a Blu-ray player. I couldn't resist. The local Technomarkt had a special Toshiba package for €88. I researched the player. Pretty much all the reviews said total bare bones player, no WiFi, no bells & whistles, and awkward remote and OSD, but fantastic picture and sound quality, which is all I care about, really.
The decision maker for the purchase? It came with Kick Ass, Scarface, Inglorious Basterds, Gladiator, Fast and Furious 5 and Robin Hood. Not a bad haul for €88 (about $114).

 Re: Recent DVD Purchases
Alright Reelviews members, I am in need of your help. I came across this wonderful DVD collection on India's favorite online store, and it immediately caught my eye. Having joined the workforce only a few years ago, my DVD collection is relatively non-existent. And I feel that this collection would be a great way to kick-start my DVD collecting habits. The entire box set costs Rs. 10K (180$ approximately) and I feel that it is the kind of bargain that cannot be found elsewhere. Where I need your help is in telling me whether the actual films in the collection are worth it? I think I already know the answer but I want to hear it from the experts on here. I've seen only two films on the list ( 12 Angry Men & Seven Samurai). There are a few other films on the list that I've been planning to see but haven't ( Battleship Potemkin, 8 1/2 and many others) and there a few films that I've never heard of in my life ( The Soft Skin, Crossing The Bridge and a few others). For those who don't want to click the link for some reason, the following films are available in the collection: Bicycle Thieves. The Birth of a Nation. King Kong. The Grapes of Wrath. The General The Duck Soup Rome open city Lady from Shanghai Laura Battleship Potemkin Public Enemy Key Largo The Lost Weekend Mr.Smith Goes to Washington Gaslight The Last Emperor Triumph of the Will Children of Heaven 12 Angry Men Brief Encounter Long Voyage Home Letter from an Unknown Woman Monsieur Verdoux Camille The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari Dodsworth Paths of Glory Shadow of a Doubt 8 1/2 Time Metropolis Seven Samurai Bob the Gambler Diary of A Chambermaid Infernal Affairs The Human Beast The Soft Skin Wild Strawberries Chunking Express Crossing the bridge
