Excellent work.

But I've been wondering...who are your favorite actors/actresses and filmmakers? You've discussed who is over/underrated, but haven't listed your favorites. Nor compiled a list of actors to watch out for. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on each.

Your love for Patton is well known around these parts. Is it even possible to imagine a movie taking the #1 spot? I could say my favorite movie has changed a few times. But I could see liking a movie so much that no movie could top it, especially given Patton's longevity for you. But what would it take to move Patton to #2?

Hmmm, I overestimated BEFORE MIDNIGHT's placement by quite a bit. Mainly because your review for it screamed praise like nothing since the LOTR films. You've said in past Reelthoughts that you think it's the best of the trilogy. What made you change your mind?

So how did Life Itself not make the list. Ever consider doing a Bottom 100 list.

And JB, I gotta ask...where is the love for Spirited Away? One of the most magical and innovative animated masterpieces of all time? At least tell me you bought a copy for your collection!

It's too new for consideration. I only saw it a couple of months ago. I never consider a movie for inclusion until it's been at least 9 months since I first saw it (saw "Like Father" for the first time last October so it just got in under the wire) and I've seen it twice in non-festival situations.

It's pretty high up in this year's Top 10 so will probably make the end-of-the-year list. But not the all-time one. Yes, I do own a copy.

I wouldn't say it's impossible for PATTON to move out of the #1 spot but it would take a very, very good movie. PATTON assumed that position around 1983. Before that, my favorites were KING KONG until 1977, STAR WARS from 1977 until 1980, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK from 1980 until 1982, STAR TREK 2 from 1982 until 1983, then PATTON. I first saw PATTON in 1979 but it wasn't until I watched it for the third time that I decided I liked it better than anything else I had seen.

I rewatched the trilogy and, while I would concede that "objectively" MIDNIGHT is the strongest of the three, I still enjoyed SUNRISE the best. So that set an upper limit on the placement for MIDNIGHT.

I'm going to do something a little different, as suggested by Ken. As part of a summer 2014 autopsy, I'm going to include ten early-year films that are worth seeing but that (likely) won't make the end-of-the-year Top 10.

He expressed his distaste for this question in his old FAQ section: http://www.reelviews.net/faq.html

Not sure if he feels differently about the question now, although I do feel like he points out within actual reviews the stars he most appreciates.

Have you considered ranking the films as a whole? They aren't a singular story in the same way LOTR is, but they're certainly built upon each other and their greatest strengths come from the whole. If there comes a time when the series officially concludes, might you put them together?

I think in the first sentence you were talking about The Wind Rises.

Why not list them like a trilogy like your did for The Lord of the Rings? I've only seen Before Sunrise, although I own the other two. Is the reason why you don't because you see them as separate films rather than one complete story divided into three parts by necessity (you did suspect that the film would pick up again in 8 years)?

How many DVDs/Blu Rays do you own?
