Interesting that you saw Superman II before the first one. Had the Salkind's stuck to their original plan (picking up from the Part I cliffhanger), the movie might have been a more frustrating experience for you.

I always enjoy reading the ReelThoughts topic, I find many times that you mention films in the body of your article that you don't provide reviews for. The most recent one, for the 1981 article, mentions Friday the 13TH Part 2 and The Howling, which are both films I would have liked to see you review for this year, along with your reviews for Body Heat and Clash of the Titans. And by the way, I absolutely love the 1980's reviews so far.

A big year for me at the cinema, meaning my first! Condorman was the first film I ever saw followed by Fox and the Hound and Dragonslayer. I'd like to say my first film was Empire Strikes Back, apparently I went with my father,(I was 4&1/2) but I have no recollection of it, so it doesn't count.

My dad still recalls June 12, 1981 vividly. His brother rushes in the house and exclaims, "I just saw the best movie I've ever seen in my life. It's called, "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Come on, let's go." And the two rushed right back to the multiplex and saw it, meaning my uncle saw it twice in mere hours. No movie has ever compelled me to do that. I love these articles. Can't wait for the mid-to-late 80's. I'm also kind of weirdly curious: what did you think of "The Great Muppet Caper"?

I don't really remember it. I get all of the early Muppet movies kind-of jumbled together. I think I enjoyed it but it wasn't memorable and I haven't seen it again since.

I really enjoyed reading this one, and I can't wait for 1982!
My mum recalls 1981 very well. Over in England it was the year of Princess Di marrying Charlie and the TV series Boys From the Blackstuff (highly recommended).
A group of my friends and myself have a set of films from the years we were born, so the 1982 review will be special for me.

Mr. Berardinelli, you do have a remarkable memory for precise dates from such a long time ago. How do you remember all this? Did you write this all down, or remember the occasion of seeing the film and check the dates online?

I have a good memory for dates but I usually have to look one or two of them up to release the memories.

EFFFF YEEEEAHHH!
I had a feeling you might review Clash of the Titans. Actually, more, I was hoping you would. I have a soft spot for this movie just because my dad recorded it when I was growing up and I would watch it endlessly. I think I was more entranced by the "special effects" in it.
I guess we're not getting a review for Neverending Story like we thought we would, eh?

1981... Big year for me, becasuse that was my year in the United States!!!!! I lived in Annandale Va. fron 1980 through 1982. I was not much of a movie goer in 1981 because I was not as adept in English (I'm still not that good) But I do remember vividly seeing Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Chariots Of Fire... 1982 was much better for me when it comes to movies. I saw most of themat the Tyson Corner's Mall... some memories!!!!!

I saw the Supermans in exactly the same way: II in the theater, than the two part first on the network TV showing. Oddly, I've since seen Superman twice on a screen...
...and I also can't believe we were both suckered into seeing Cannonball Run in a theater.
